Derek DeYoung was born on a bayou near the shores of Lake Michigan, where his love of fishing was ignited. Over the years, his art has expanded from the classical fishing art, focusing on a unique style and palette. Using acrylic paints on canvas, he artfully captures the subtle intricacies of fish, including their colorful patterns, dimensions, and textures.
When poling across a keys flat, or floating a big Montana river, what I’m really searching for is that magical experience or vision that will inspire me, and raise my paintings to that next level. Ironically, I often find myself most inspired when the fishing is slow and I stare off into the surface of the water and begin mentally designing my next painting.
