See the Deeper Calling: Kai Lenny

In honor of World Ocean Day, Costa is looking beyond the surface. Through the stories of Kimi Werner and Kai Lenny, See the Deeper Calling explores
how life on the water can evolve into something far greater: a source of purpose, responsibility and deep respect for the oceans that give so much.

WOD - Kai Feature hero

For 8x SUP World Champion Kai Lenny, life has always revolved around the ocean.

The Hawaiian waves and wind shaped his youth, his passions and eventually his career. From giant surf to open-ocean downwind runs, the water is both his playground and the place he feels most free, focused and at home.

For 8x SUP World Champion Kai Lenny, life has always revolved around the ocean.-The Hawaiian waves and wind shaped his youth, his passions and eventually his career. From giant surf to open-ocean downwind runs, the water is both his playground and the place he feels most free, focused and at home.

Inspired by the legends who came before him, Kai spent years pursuing mastery across multiple disciplines.

Whether chasing bigger waves or developing equipment that allows him to go farther, he approaches the ocean with the belief that there is always something more to learn and accomplish. In the heaviest conditions, he says there is also a spiritual side to the experience, where survival, humility and God all come sharply into focus against the raw power of the ocean.

Over time, that connection naturally grew into a sense of responsibility.

Traveling the world through different water sports showed Kai how connected every coastline and community truly is. To him, caring for the ocean starts with caring for your own stretch of beach, your local break and the waters you call home. Small actions repeated across enough communities have the power to create worldwide change.

Today, that responsibility has become even more personal as a father of three young daughters.

Sharing the ocean with them brings a new sense of purpose and perspective. He hopes they experience the same joy, freedom and connection that shaped his own life and eventually create their own relationship with the water.

Costa celebrates watermen like Kai who share our love of the ocean, our deep respect for what it gives us, and our calling to protect it in return.

His story is a reminder that it doesn’t start somewhere far away. It starts close to home, with the places and moments that shape who we are and the future we share.
